Kenzie Ziegler’s got the internet burning up.

Before releasing her new single, “Tans Lines,” on Aug. 22, the singer took method dressing to a whole new level by “tattooing” none other than actual tan lines on her body to promote the song.

Earlier this week, the former Dance Moms alum, 21, showed a behind-the-scenes look at her ink session with Los Angeles-based artist Christian Delacruz.

The TikTok clip, garnering 10 million views since its posting, showed everything from the stencils and white ink used to create bikini-like marks on Ziegler’s upper body to the final results.

Ziegler didn’t say much about her new appearance, but her fans ran with their own commentary as the transformation left many of them shocked and confused.Thousands of her followers either left memes or surprised reactions to the star’s new look with a large majority of her followers questioning if the whole thing was a joke. Ziegler hasn’t directly addressed anything, including whether or not the tattoo is permanent, save for liking a few comments.

The tattoo mimics the cover art for “Tan Lines,” which shows a person, presumably Ziegler, in bikini bottoms and an exposed tan line.

Ziegler released her first album in 2014 with Mack Z. In 2023, she told PEOPLE that becoming a musician was her “childhood dream,” and it is “really crazy” to be pursuing it now. She’s also used her songs — one of those being 2023’s “Anatomy” — to reflect on the part of her childhood that she previously kept out of the public eye.

“I was very hesitant to release it at first just because it is so personal, and I don’t think a lot of people know that about me,” Ziegler told PEOPLE of the wistful ballad, which reveals her tumultuous relationship with her father. “But I also think that it could really help some people that are exactly like me to relate to this and not feel alone.”

“I definitely am stepping out of my comfort zone and being authentic in a different way that’s not just on social media — I’m telling my story,” she added.
