Ever since the Prince and Princess of Wales first crossed paths at the University of St.

Andrews, their romance has unfolded largely under public scrutiny.

The nation quickly became captivated by the young woman who had won over the future King’s affections during the peak of what was dubbed Willsmania.

Kate and William began as friends before their relationship became romantic.

After several years as a couple, they momentarily parted ways in 2007 amid speculation that William wasn’t prepared for a serious commitment.

The breakup turned out to be temporary and the pair exchanged vows four years later in 2011.

Royal expert Richard Eden, who features on the Daily Mail’s Palace Confidential podcast, revealed it was during their separation that he witnessed an exchange that persuaded him she would seamlessly adapt to Royal life.

He described encountering Kate for the first time while she conversed with the late socialite, Tara Palmer-Tomkinson.

Tara, who died in 2017, inquired about how Kate was coping following the split, the expert alleged.

Initially, he said Kate responded, “It’s fine.”

However, Tara reportedly persisted, remarking, “It must be so hard.”

At that moment, Kate allegedly ended the discussion entirely with just three composed words, “Really, it’s fine.”

In his Daily Mail column, Richard noted, “She made clear with her body language that she didn’t wish to discuss the subject, and the conversation moved swiftly on to happier and less fraught matters.

“At that time, Catherine was seen as a party-loving girlfriend of William, but my first encounter with her taught me that she was a tough cookie who wasn’t going to be inveigled into saying something she didn’t want to say.

“Indeed, she reminded me of members of the Royal Family, much older than herself, who have the uncanny ability to make small-talk with anyone without giving anything anyway,” he added.

During her official engagement interview, Kate said about their breakup, “Well I think if you do go out with someone for quite a long time you do get to know each other very, very well, you go through the good times, you go through the bad times.

I think if you can come out of that stronger and learn things about yourself.”
