AN NFL star nicknamed the ‘Giant Killer’ has announced his retirement abruptly.

The Philadelphia Eagles icon sadly had a career between their two Super Bowl triumphs in 2017 and 2024.

However, that will never affect the legacy that running back Boston Scott leaves behind there now that he has retired from the NFL.

Scott, 30, spent six years with the Eagles after they signed him off the New Orleans Saints‘ practice squad in 2018.

He had been selected in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Saints, only to be waived and re-signed on a practice squad deal.

The Saints’ loss was the Eagles’ gain as he established himself as an excellent complementary running back.

Scott had a knack for having his best performances against the Eagles’ NFC East rivals, the New York Giants, hence the nickname ‘Giant Killer’.

During his six seasons with the Eagles, Scott had 302 carries for 1,295 yards and 16 touchdowns.

That doesn’t take into account his ability as a pass-back, as he also recorded 71 receptions for 566 yards and one touchdown.

In his 10 games against the Giants, Scott amassed 422 rushing yards on 90 carries at an average of 4.7 yards per carry and nine rushing touchdowns.

He also made 17 catches for 222 yards and scored one receiving touchdown as a true thorn in the Giants’ side.

The versatile back wouldn’t play another game again after leaving the Eagles at the end of 2023.

The walk-on at Louisiana Tech did reach one Super Bowl in 2022, but that was the year they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs 38-35.

He was briefly with the Los Angeles Rams and then the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2024 before the season, but was cut by both teams and hasn’t played a down since.

Scott is the third notable former Eagles player to retire in the past week.

Star defensive end Bryce Huff called time on his career at only 27 last Friday.

Then on Tuesday, iconic cornerback Darius Slay hung up the cleats officially after a bizarre end to last season.

Slay had left the Steelers by mutual consent and was going to join the Eagles again for one last run, but the Buffalo Bills swooped in instead.

He did not report for duty with the Bills and wouldn’t play another snap in the NFL.

If there is one thing that is for sure, Giants fans sure will be relieved they’ll never have to face the Giant Killer again.
