The two victims who lost their lives in the car crash involving English heavyweight boxing star Anthony Joshua in Nigeria on Monday have been identified.
Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, both Joshua’s friends, died in the accident, Matchroom Boxing — the promotional company representing Joshua — said in a statement.

Anthony Joshua is pictured after getting removed from a vehicle in Nigeria on Dec. 29.

Anthony Joshua was involved in a fatal car accident in Nigeria on Dec. 29, 2025.
“Anthony Joshua was involved in a road traffic accident in Lagos, Nigeria, earlier today,” Matchroom Boxing said. “With profound sadness it has been confirmed that two close friends and team members Sina Shami and Latif Ayodele have tragically passed away.
“Mathroom Boxing and 258BXG can confirm that Anthony sustained injuries in the accident and was taken to hospital for checks and treatment. He is in a stable condition and will remain there for observation.
“Our deepest condolences and prayers are with the families and friends of all those affected — and we ask that their privacy is respected at this incredibly difficult time.”
According to the Federal Road Safety Corps of Nigeria, the car Joshua was in — though he wasn’t driving — was speeding and lost control “during an overtaking maneuver,” considered a “serious traffic violation” by the organization.
Just 10 days ago, Joshua — a former unified heavyweight champion — fought Jake Paul and won via sixth-round knockout in a lucrative fight in Miami, which was streamed on Netflix.
Joshua, the son of British-Nigerian parents, reportedly made around $92 million from the fight.

Anthony Joshua defeated Jake Paul via sixth-round KO just 10 days ago in Miami.
“I have spoken with AJ to personally convey my condolences over the passing of his two close associates, Kevin Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami in the recent accident,” Niegerian president Bola Ahmed Tinubu posted on X. “I wished him a full and speedy recovery, and prayed with him. AJ assured me he is receiving the best possible care.
“I also spoke with his mother and prayed for her. She was deeply appreciative of the call. Governor Dapo Abiodun, who was at the hospital with them, assured me he will do everything possible to ensure AJ receives the best attention.
“May God strengthen the families and grant repose to the souls of the departed.”
