We didn’t wait eight months to not overreact to NFL Week 1. As is the case in South Beach after Miami Dolphins fans suffered through nearly four quarters of shut out football in the 33-8 loss against the Indianapolis Colts.
This week the team is set to host the 0-1 New England Patriots in what will either be a giant bounce back spot, or a potential mini-crisis.
“I’m not sure there’s a team that needs a Week 2 win more than Miami,” writes Dan Graziano for ESPN.
“After visiting its training camp, I was sort of buying the idea that this season was going to be a bit of a cultural reset and that things might not be as awful as feared.”
Graziano sat down with fellow ESPN personality Jeremy Fowler to discuss whether or not it was time to press the panic button.
While Fowler preached patience, Graziano fears that Week 2 may be the start of the end.
“The Dolphins looked disastrously dreadful on both sides of the ball against the Colts, and suddenly there was a whole bunch of fresh evidence suggesting they could be the league’s worst team this season,” Graziano continues.
“If Week 1 was a true representation of how Miami’s season will go, things could get really ugly quickly. And that could mean big changes.”
Fowler Reveals Tyreek Hill Trade Information
In response to Graziano’s panic button take, Fowler revealed what he has heard from inside the Dolphins building.
“Trade rumors around Tyreek Hill will be worth watching,” Fowler says. “My understanding is that Miami received calls on Hill but did not show interest in trading him.
If the losing persists, perhaps those phone lines open. The Dolphins already exercised Hill’s $15.85 million option bonus, leaving a $10 million base salary and $1.8 million in per-game bonuses.”
Hill is entering year two of a three-year, $90 million extension. The contract has a built in out after this season, according to Spotrac.
This makes Hill a very attractive trade piece considering that contenders acquiring the All Pro do not have to make any long term commitments.
Hill could be an NBA style rental for a team chasing a title… should the losing persist.
Hill Keeps Getting Tied To The Chiefs
Tyreek Hill was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2016. Aside from the Dolphins, the Chiefs are the only other team Hill has played for.
This makes this prediction feel boring and played out. However, there is a lot of merit to it.
“A Chiefs reunion is low-hanging fruit and could be what Kansas City needs,” Fowler concludes.
“The Chiefs can’t seem to get their receiving trio of Xavier Worthy, Rashee Rice and Hollywood Brown on the field at the same time, and a boost of explosiveness would help.”
The Chiefs quietly have one of the weakest receiving rooms in the NFL. Not to mention, Hill is not usually considered the easiest super star to work with.
Sending him to a place he’s familiar with that has many of the same faces could be a very easy sell.
