Super Bowl LX: New England Patriots v Seattle SeahawksMaye has addressed whether he will need surgery on his throwing shoulder in the offseason

It was revealed after the 29-13 Super Bowl loss to the Seattle Seahawks that Maye had a shoulder injection before the game.

That was despite the Patriots clearing Maye off of the injury report altogether.

In the two-week buildup to the Super Bowl, Maye had been limited in some capacity at practice due to his shoulder.

He has now confirmed that he will not need surgery on it and that it didn’t particularly affect him in the loss.

Maye told reporters, “I was feeling like I was able to make throws in the game and was myself.

“[I] Just need some time off. Time off. Time is the best healer. Definitely just need time off.

“Nothing that needs anything to be done. Just some time away, maybe get some rest, some time away from football.”

Maye was sacked six times by the Seattle defense and turned over the ball three times in the Super Bowl loss.

Two of those turnovers were interceptions, one of which being a pick-six as Mike Macdonald’s defense tormented him all evening.

He only threw for 48 passing yards in the entire first half of the Super Bowl as he struggled to get anything going.

Maye refused to blame it on his injury but did acknowledge the unfortunate timing of the blow.

He added, “I feel like my arm was feeling great all year. I don’t think throwing was really the instance for my arm.

“I think it’s a case of having one hit in the AFC Championship Game that was just kind of unfortunate.

“You can’t blame anything on injuries. Things happen like this all the time in the league.

“What a year of health and blessings for me this year. You can’t zone in on one little thing on the shoulder.

“Was just unfortunate it happened to be the throwing one, but at the same time, I could’ve prevented it or made more plays.”
