Plans have been unveiled for the $450 million makeover of the David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium.

It is home to the Kansas Jayhawks’ NCAA Division-I college football program.

The stadium is the seventh-oldest college football venue in the United States.

It is also the oldest college football stadium located west of the Mississippi River.

Renderings have been shared ahead of the venue’s Phase II of redevelopment.

A mixed-use Gateway District is set to be added immediately outside of the stadium.

This will include the redevelopment of the David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium’s east stand.

Enhancements are set to be made to the number and quality of seating options at the venue.

Additionally, phase II will include the construction of a new hotel, restaurants, office space, and student housing.

It will also include the construction of an underground parking facility.

The stadium is located on the university’s campus in Lawrence, Kansas.

This follows the announcement that the NFL‘s Kansas City Chiefs are set to cross state lines from Missouri into Kansas.

They are set to build a $3 billion domed stadium in Wyandotte County, Kansas.

The updates to the David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium come after the redevelopment’s first phase.

This transformed the north and west stands with new seating installed alongside changes to the field, video boards and tunnel.

Funding for phase II will come from a combination of private donors, university sources, and public incentives.

A total of $75 million of a $300 million donation from the stadium’s namesake David Booth will be used to help fund this development.

Phase I was completed last August ahead of the 2025 college football season.
