THE SEATTLE SEAHAWKS partied long into the night after their phenomenal Super Bowl triumph in Santa Clara.

The Seahawks obliterated the New England Patriots with a defensively dominant performance for the ages.

Eleven years ago it was the ‘Legion of Boom’ Seahawks secondary that proved too good against the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII.

This time around at Super Bowl LX, the defensive unit now known as ‘The Dark Side’ gave Patriots quarterback Drake Maye terrors.

Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald orchestrated chaos for Maye and his offensive line as they sacked him six times.

Maye was picked off twice, with the second a pick-six, and also saw a forced fumble recovered as the Seahawks won 29-13.

Seattle quarterback Sam Darnold made sure to praise his defense when lifting the Lombardi Trophy after the game.

And it didn’t take long after that for the cigars to be lit and the music to be cranked to full volume in the Seahawks locker room.

The celebrations were in full flow as team pictures were taken with several of the players sporting ski goggles.

Players wearing ski masks or goggles during celebrations have become somewhat of a trend in US sports in recent years.

NFL fans might recall the Philadelphia Eagles players donning ski masks the year after winning the Super Bowl in 2017.

They had rocked dog masks during the season they won it all as a sign of embracing their underdog status.

The switch between masks was supposed to emphasise the upturn in mentality from underdogs to Super Bowl champions.

It has long been debated who truly started the trend as the New Orleans Saints also got in on the action in 2019.

Regardless of who started what and when, one thing that was ultimately clear is that the Seahawks were the deserving world champions.

As was expected, it was Seahawks’ offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak’s final game before he becomes head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders.

It would not be surprising to see their British defensive coordinator Aden Durde snapped up by another team either.

As Macdonald calls the plays on defense, a lateral move to another NFL team for Durde would equal a promotion.

For the time being, however, the Seahawks will be content celebrating their incredible season that culminated in Super Bowl glory.
