TRAVIS Kelce is set to remain with the Kansas City Chiefs for the 2026 NFL season.

There are several reasons behind the 36-year-old tight end’s decision to remain with the Chiefs.

Kelce has explained that he is excited to return after a dismal 2025 NFL season.

He has argued that the Chiefs can make another Super Bowl run despite claiming just six wins in 2025.

“We’re making another run at it!” Kelce said on The Pat McAfee Show.

“We got Brett Veach and Andy Reid going and getting the Super Bowl MVP. [Are] you kidding me?”

He also explained that he is “still in love” with playing football after a 13-year career with the Chiefs.

Kelce has also noted that the arrival of Eric Bieniemy, 56, as defensive coordinator has influenced his decision.

“Got my guy Eric Bieniemy, Coach Bieniemy back,” Kelce added. “There’s a lot of pieces in Kansas City that I absolutely love and I can’t wait to get back in the building with them.”

Veteran Kelce has explained that his older brother Jason, 38, advised him to take his time when deciding his retirement fate.

He had been told to avoid making an emotion-driven decision.

But Kelce has explained that he was sure that he would return midway through the 2025 campaign.

He explained on his New Heights podcast that he was not ready to retire after the Chiefs failed to reach the playoffs for the first time in a decade.

“Of course I want to come back, of course I don’t want to end my career not making the playoffs, not having one of the best years,” Kelce said.

“Obviously, there’s still a little of that grit and emotion, I f***ing hated how that s*** ended last year, I wanna make it right. Get another chance and get another Super Bowl.”

There had been significant speculation regarding Kelce’s future in the NFL as his contract approached expiry.

Kelce was signed to a two-year, $34.25 million contract with the Chiefs.

He is now set to sign a one-year, $12 million deal to remain with the franchise.

This is despite a $15 million broadcasting deal being on offer if he were to retire from the NFL.

Tight end Kelce will be allowed to officially sign his new contract at 4pm ET on Wednesday, March 11.
