Yet on Sunday afternoon, Patrick Mahomes suffered a shocking career-first.

And for once, it wasn’t a positive milestone or another record broken—it marked the first time in Mahomes’ career that he has lost three straight games.After last year’s 40-22 Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles and a 27-21 Week 1 defeat to the Los Angeles Chargers, the Chiefs fell again to the Eagles, 20-17, at Arrowhead in a Super Bowl rematch.

For the first time in his illustrious career, the three-time Super Bowl champion has lost three games in a row.

And two of those were sandwiched by Philadelphia.
It is also the first time that Kansas City has fallen to 0-2 since 2014, which was Andy Reid’s second year as head coach. They finished the year at 9-7.It was the only time that Kansas City has missed the postseason under Reid.

Not only is it Mahomes’ first three-game losing streak in the NFL, it’s also his first 0-2 start since his sophomore year of high school.

It’s been a while since Mahomes had wracked up a win in the first few weeks to begin a season. It’s a strange and eerie feeling.

Kansas City’s rabbit foot from last season also seems to have been left in 2024. A year ago, the Chiefs were 10-0 in games decided by seven points or fewer.

Two weeks into this season, the Chiefs are 0-2 in games decided by 7 points or fewer.

Something hasn’t quite been right for the team that has been in five of the last six Super Bowls.

Granted, Kansas City has been without its top two wide receivers, Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy, to start the season.

After the game, Reid took the blame for yet another loss to his former team.

“I’ll take full responsibility for that game,” Reid told reporters.

It’s a battle of two winless teams next Sunday when the Chiefs travel to face the New York Giants on Sunday Night Football.
