The Canes won’t have far to travel for the final
THE MIAMI Hurricanes are set for a huge payday after reaching the CFB National Championship Game.
No. 10 Miami saw off Ole Miss Rebels 31-27 in a thrilling Fiesta Bowl on Thursday night.
The Miami Hurricanes are heading to the National Championship Game
The program has already bagged $20million for reaching the showpiece
The win cemented Miami‘s first visit to the college football showpiece since 2001.
And with it, the program is set to bank a whopping $20million.
More importantly for the Hurricanes, they will be able to keep every dime of that prize money.
Each of the four teams that reached the College Football Playoff semifinals earn a $6m payout.
That’s on top of the $4m for reaching the quarter finals and $4m for being selected as one of the initial 12 playoff teams.
The ACC allows its members to keep 100 per cent of the prize money they earn during the CFP, per Front Office Sports.
They are currently the only power conference to do so.
The same rule is in operation for men’s and women’s basketball in the ACC.
Miami will also receive $3m allotted to cover travel expenses for each round.
With the final later this month being held at Hard Rock Stadium in the city, that money can go straight in the school’s savings.
Big Ten and Big 12 schools are required to share the money equally beyond travel expenses.
The Hurricanes can now look forward to a home game national championship on January 19.
“When I saw everybody running on the field, it felt like a dream, like I was waiting on somebody to wake me up or something,” said linebacker Wesley Bissainthe, a Miami native.
“I’m a Miami guy, so playing in front of my peers, from where I’m from?
“It’s going to mean everything.”
