THE New York Jets have swung the axe following their horror show performance against the Pittsburgh Steelers last Sunday.

An impressive fourth quarter comeback from the Steelers saw the Jets suffer a 24-22 loss in their opening game of the 2025 NFL season.

The Jets have cut Gipson after a costly fumble triggered a change of momentum in the final quarter.

Running back Kenneth Gainwell, 26, slapped the ball out of Gipson’s hand to force the fumble at the start of the fourth quarter.

After going unpicked at the 2023 NFL Draft, Gipson arrived in New York as a free agent.

He made an instant impact with the Jets as he returned a punt from 65 yards to score a touchdown.

Gipson appeared to have initially won the battle for his position after a promising pre-season camp.

He played every match for the Jets between his arrival and ultimate cutting.

The Jets signed rookie receiver Jamaal Pritchett, 22, ahead of the 2025 NFL season.

He arrived as an undrafted free agent, surviving until the final 53-man roster cut.

Pritchett remains at the Jets as a member of their practice squad.
The rookie is the leading contender to replace Gipson as their returner and backup receiver.He could make his debut as the Jets face the Buffalo Bills in the second week of NFL action this season.
