Legendary broadcaster Al Michaels received some cruel backlash from NFL fans on social media
Fans urged Michaels to retire after covering the Chicago Bears vs Green Bay Packers
The Bears defeated the Packers with a score of 31-27 in Illinois to extend their record to 12-6.
Some NFL enthusiasts watching from home didn’t seem entertained with Michaels’ commentary.
And some took to social media to voice their opinions with a selection of them going as far as to advise the veteran to “retire”.
One fan tweeted: “It’s time for Al Michaels to hang it up, man.
“A team scores a touchdown in the playoffs and he announces it like he’s saying good morning to a coworker in the hallway.
“I’ve seen people more excited to find extra fries at the bottom of the bag.”
Another commented: “Al Michaels has made so many mistakes already just 9 minutes in the game.”
A third wrote: “It’s brutal man. I muted my TV.”
This fan said: “Complete misses of what’s happening on the field.”
That one added: “Al Michaels needs to retire. He has literally no care or enthusiasm in his voice whatsoever.
And a comment read: “Al Michaels you’re a legend but please retire.”
Michaels has been one of the most iconic voices in the NFL for almost five decades.
The New Yorker is currently the lead play-by-play announcer on Thursday Night Football.
He was the main voice of ABC’s Monday Night Football coverage for 20 years and worked alongside the great John Madden.
Michaels later teamed up with color commentator Cris Collinsworth at NBC.
He moved to front Amazon Prime’s TNF coverage in 2022 alongside Kirk Herbstreit.
And Michaels is not set to retire from the booth any time soon.
In fact, he is set to stay on the mic for the 2026 season.
Michaels told Sports Business Journal: “First of all, I feel great.
“Everyone at Amazon has been fantastic and I love working with this group.
“I’ve been looking at this year one year at a time and as long as I feel I’m at the top of my game, I’d like to continue.”
