NFC Championship Game: Los Angeles Rams v Seattle Seahawks

Tariq Woolen looks on after his penalty

Woolen’s penalty came at a hugely important point in the NFC Championship game, when the Rams had an 11-point lead.

The Seahawks got a crucial stop on third down that would give them an opportunity to score and put the game out of reach.

However, Woolen decided to turn towards the Rams bench and shout at the team before returning to his own bench.

That is basically the definition of the taunting rule, and officials had no problem throwing a flag for the violation.

The NFL fined Woolen $17,398 for the penalty.

Woolen’s taunt gave the Rams a new set of downs, and the Rams scored just one play later.

Ironically enough, Puka Nacua scored the touchdown with Woolen covering him.

Woolen was swarmed by his teammates on the sideline after the error, and he took accountability for it after the game.

“No more taunting penalties,” he wrote in a post.

The Seahawks would go on to win the game 31-27, but it was much closer than it should have been.
