Coach was asked about Xavier Worthy leaving the game in the first quarter

THE Kansas City Chiefs suffered a brutal season-opening loss which was marred by injuries.

Kansas City was beaten by the Los Angeles Chargers in Sao Paulo, Brazil on Friday night.

And their misery was compounded by a number of injury concerns.

Wide receiver Xavier Worthy left the game early after suffering a shoulder injury.

He ran into tight end Travis Kelce in the first quarter and was then immediately ruled questionable to return.

The Chiefs later confirmed he was out – leaving their wide receiving corps even more depleted.

Kansas City is without Rashee Rice for six games through suspension.

And head coach Andy Reid shared a worrying update on Worthy after the game.

Reid said that Worthy is set for an MRI when the team gets back to Kansas City.

They are due to land Saturday after a 10-hour flight back from Brazil.

Kansas City plays the Philadelphia Eagles in a Super Bowl rematch Week 2.

And they’ll be hoping Worthy’s injury is not serious with a tough slate ahead.

As was defensive end Ashton Gillotte.

But all three managed it to make it through to the end of the game.

And coach Reid is hopeful they will be OK going forward.

Speaking after the lost to their AFC West rival, Reid said, “We can learn from this as we move forward, which we’ll do.

“I’ve got to make sure I get my team in a better state, there, coming out, playing with more emotion, and we’re a little flat that first half.
“There are some good things in there.”But again, we’ve got to make sure we take care of business with that, and that’s my responsibility.”
