It didn’t take long for Omarion Hampton to make an impact in his return from injured reserve.
The Chargers running back caught a touchdown pass from Justin Herbert just minutes after their “Monday Night Football” matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles kicked off at SoFi Stadium.
Playing in his first game since fracturing his ankle, Los Angeles Chargers rookie Omarion Hampton scored a quick touchdown against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The rookie, who was the No. 22 overall pick in April’s NFL draft, didn’t start the game — Kimani Vidal did — but once he got in, he chewed up yards.
He ran for 11 on his first carry, and then grabbed a four-yard score from Herbert to give Los Angeles a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter.
Hampton had missed Los Angeles’ last seven games while dealing with a broken ankle he suffered against the Commanders in Week 5. He had the two best games of his young career in the two weeks prior, going over 100 total scrimmage yards in both the previous contests.
The Chargers activated Hampton shortly before Monday night’s kickoff, and throughout the first half, he and Vidal shared carries.
Vidal was actually the tailback who sparked the Chargers’ opening touchdown drive, when he caught a short Herbert pass and took it 60 yards into the red zone.
Omarion Hampton had missed the Los Angeles Chargers’ previous seven games while dealing with the ankle injury he suffered against the Washington Commanders.
Los Angeles also got two other key players, running back Hassan Haskins and defensive lineman Otito Ogbonnia, back from IR for the game.
Herbert, meanwhile, looked steady early in first half, despite requiring surgery last week to repair a broken bone he sustained in his non-throwing hand during L.A.’s victory over the Raiders.
He later threw an interception during a first half that saw six turnovers combined between the two teams, including two on one play by Eagles QB Jalen Hurts.
