It is not believed that his injuries are life threatening, or career ending, according to a San Francisco Police report obtained by NFL.

The San Francisco Police Department are yet to make any arrests in the incident, which reportedly happened just after 4am on Monday.

“Keion White was a victim of a shooting and sustained a bullet wound to his ankle this morning in San Francisco,” the 49ers team statement read.

“He is currently undergoing surgery at a local hospital. We will provide further updates when appropriate.”

The SFPD’s Strategic Investigation Unit (SIU) is now handling the ongoing investigation and says officers responded to reports of a shooting just after 4am on the 1700 block of Mission Street.

The officers located a victim now known to be White who had sustained an apparent gunshot wound.

White was given medical help at the scene before being transported to a local hospital.

SFPD’s preliminary investigation has reportedly found that a verbal altercation took place between two groups inside a business prior to shots being fired by an unknown assailant.

White is not thought to have been part of the altercation and investigations are ongoing.

SUPER BOWL SIGHTING

He attended Sunday’s Super Bowl at Levi’s Stadium in California as his former team, the New England Patriots, lost to the Seattle Seahawks.

The 27-year-old was traded to the 49ers in 2025 and, including the play-offs, made 11 appearances last season.

The American has featured in 47 games in total, starting 20, since first being drafted in 2023, and has registered 100 tackles, 7.5 sacks, nine passes defended and two forced fumbles during his time with the 49ers and Patriots.

He becomes the second 49ers player to be shot in the past 18 months after team-mate Ricky Pearsall was injured in an attempted robbery.

Pearsall was shot when an alleged teen robber tried to take his Rolex watch in August 2024.

An unnamed 17-year-old was arrested as he attempted to flee the scene.

San Francisco Police Chief William Scott said that the gun used in the shooting had been recovered and the suspect acted alone.

“This kind of violence is simply unacceptable in our city,” Scott said.

Pearsall was treated at San Francisco General Hospital for his injuries.
