Cleveland’s painful process of finding a new coach is over, but more details are emerging now about quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

The controversial Pro Bowl quarterback was apparently a part of the questioning surrounding the Browns’ head coaching job, which eventually went to former Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken.

During interviews, which included essays and personality tests, Cleveland wanted to ask prospective candidates about developing Sanders.

“How would you develop Shedeur Sanders?” the Browns asked, according to Sports Illustrated.

The Browns, of course, have three quarterbacks on their roster jockeying for playing time, including Dillon Gabriel, who was drafted ahead of Sanders, and the highly paid former star Deshaun Watson.

Sanders was in the building to meet his new coach Friday morning, as Monken gave his potential starting quarterback a big hug as they met.

“We tried to draft your ass last year,” Monken said to Sanders in the clip posted on social media. “It’s all worked out. Someday we’ll get a chance to talk about that.”

The reports came out around the time of Sanders’ unprecedented draft day fall that the Ravens wanted to draft the Colorado product, but he apparently told them not to pick him.

Sanders went 144th overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, after the Browns drafted Dillon Gabriel at No. 93.

Now with Monken in the building, it appears that Sanders is the Browns’ quarterback for the 2026 season, or, at the minimum, he’ll get a chance to compete for the starting job.

Sanders is a fan favorite, as he made the Pro Bowl based on his popularity and certainly not his skills on the field to this point.

He threw for 1,400 yards, seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions last season as the Browns really struggled on offense.
