A former NFL star has praised the Patriots coach

MIKE Vrabel has been left with a bloody mouth during the New England Patriots’ celebrations.

Head coach Vrabel, 50, has taken a helmet to the face after the Patriots‘ Wild Card win on Sunday night.

The head coach was accidentally struck in the mouth by his own player.

Defensive tackle Milton Williams, 26, made a game-winning sack against the Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert, 27.

Williams then made his way over to the sidelines to hug head coach Vrabel.

But things went awry as Williams appeared to accidentally head-butt his own head coach.

Vrabel gave Williams a friendly smack on the helmet before a team medic wiped away the blood from his mouth.

TSN star Jay Onrait, 51, was quick to spot the blood pouring from the coach’s mouth.

Mike Vrabel celebrating a little too hard at the end. He’s intense,” Onrait said.

But former Seattle Seahawks tight end Luke Willson has praised Vrabel’s approach.

“You gotta be fired up, I love that,” Willson replied.

It is not the first time that Vrabel has taken a hands-on approach to his coaching.

He was spotted in a tense exchange with defensive tackle Christian Barmore, 26, after their massive win against the New York Jets.

Coach Vrabel has also hit out at reporters who labelled his side as “underdogs” during the regular season.

His side went on the rank second in the AFC with just three losses from 17 games.

The late sack confirmed the Patriots’ place in the Divisional playoff as they claimed a 16-3 win against the Chargers at Gillette Stadium.

Williams had another key intervention earlier in the game as an alleged roughing the passer call was missed during a hit on Herbert.

This created a significant momentum swing that resulted in the Patriots claiming a 6-3 lead after scoring a field goal.

The Patriots will now host their Divisional round playoff.

They will face either the Pittsburgh Steelers or Houston Texans at Gillette Stadium.
