Burrow has previously dropped hints at being traded away from the Bengals but in the longer-term future

Two of those seasons were somewhat derailed by Burrow’s injuries but the one where he stayed fit was by far the most alarming.

He put together an MVP caliber season only to be let down by his defense time and time again, somehow finishing 2024 with a 9-8 record.

Last year, Burrow suffered a brutal turf toe injury that ruled him out for three months.

However, when he returned with a chance at the playoffs still alive, the Bengals showed the same disastrous traits yet again.

They lost 39-34 to the Buffalo Bills in his second game back to all but rule out a chance at the playoffs, conceding 21 points in the final quarter.

With all this in mind, an anonymous top NFL executive believes Burrow will be seeking a trade this offseason.

The exec told SportsBoom, “I could see him angling to get out of there. I kind of expect it.

“That’s a tough place to win, and he really wants to win.”

An anonymous NFL general manager reportedly added, “This is it. Dude, they aren’t going out and trading for Maxx Crosby or something like that.

“The defense sucks. This is the final year that Chase and Higgins are both there. It’s going to come to a head, trust me.”

Burrow so nearly took the Bengals to the heights they dreamed of when they drafted the LSU star first overall in the 2020 NFL Draft.

They fell just short in the 2021 Super Bowl against the Los Angeles Rams and have failed to reach the big game since.

Burrow and the Bengals came close the following year but the Kansas City Chiefs proved too good in the AFC Championship Game.

He has previously said that he can’t see a way that he won’t be in Cincinnati this season, but he also dropped an intriguing hint for further down the line.

Asked about moving away in the future, he said to reporters in January, “You think about a lot of things.”

Interestingly, the Bengals were the only AFC North team NOT to change head coach after last season.

Zac Taylor kept his job despite missing the playoffs again while the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers moved on from John Harbaugh and Mike Tomlin after 18 and 19 years respectively.

Tomlin stepped down while Harbaugh was fired, and the Cleveland Browns also fired Kevin Stefanski after six seasons in charge.
