A FORMER PITTSBURGH STEELERS star has announced his decision to return to the NFL just weeks after hanging up the cleats.

The ex-Steelers wideout was one of four players from the team to retire at the end of the 2025 NFL season.

Wide receiver Lance McCutcheon, middle right, celebrates a touchdown during a 2022 preseason game

He, fellow wide receiver Robert Woods, offensive tackle John LeGlue, and offensive tackle Zach Banner all decided to call it a day.

However, after only a few weeks of retirement, Steelers training camp standout Lance McCutcheon is back.

The 27-year-old has signed a one-year deal with the Tennessee Titans.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, McCutcheon had ‘second thoughts’ on his decision to retire.

He now finds himself back in Tennessee having spent the majority of the 2025 NFL season on their practice squad.

McCutcheon had signed a reserve/future contract with the Steelers in January 2025.

However, even though he was impressive in training camp, McCutcheon didn’t make the final 53-man active roster.

He was signed as an undrafted rookie free agent by the Los Angeles Rams in 2022.

In his first big opportunity as a rookie during the preseason, he actually led the NFL in receiving yards with 259.

It was enough for the Rams to offer McCutcheon a spot on their active roster for the 2022 season.

He was waived the following year, however, and was unable to consolidate a spot on the Houston Texans that season either.

The 27-year-old wideout has had similar bad luck ever since, with the New York Jets only entertaining him briefly before the 2024 season.

McCutcheon will hope that the 2026 season with the Titans is the year he can blossom under new head coach Robert Saleh.

He will get to work with new offensive coordinator Brian Daboll after Saleh added the former New York Giants head coach to his staff.
