THE Cleveland Browns made a roster decision regarding Deshaun Watson that hints at the veteran’s future.

The Browns have recently made numerous moves at the quarterback position with just days until the start of the 2025 NFL season.

On Tuesday, the Browns announced that Watson will begin the 2025 season on the reserve/physically unable to perform list.

The three-time Pro Bowler will continue to recover from a torn Achilles.

As a result, Watson will not be eligible to play for at least the first four games of the campaign.

However, he will likely miss the entire 2025 season due to his injury.
Watson has two years left on his current contract worth $230 million.Due to his disappointing play, he has fallen out of favor with not just the fans, but even team co-owner Jimmy Haslam, calling him a “swing-and-miss.”

“We took a big swing-and-miss with Deshaun,” he said back in April.

“We thought we had the quarterback; we didn’t. And we gave up a lot of draft picks to get him, so we’ve got to dig ourselves out of that hole.”

Watson completed 63.4 percent of his throws for 1,148 yards with five touchdowns and three interceptions in 2024.

He underwent Achilles surgery in October, which forced him to miss the rest of the season.

Watson then suffered a re-rupture of his right Achilles tendon and needed another surgery in January. He has recently been posting videos of his recovery progression.

If Watson does get medically cleared this season, he will likely end up on the team’s 53-man roster.

But the Browns could still choose to keep him inactive and not play him after the franchise signaled it wants to move on from Watson.

After the trade of Kenny Pickett, the Browns have veteran Joe Flacco as their starter.

Rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders will be on their 53-man roster this season.
