The Miami Dolphins wrapped up a recent joint practice with head coach Mike McDaniel expressing clear frustration over his team’s performance.
In the session with the Detroit Lions, McDaniel saw repeated execution errors on plays it had practiced extensively, testing the patience of a coach known for emphasizing process over immediate outcomes.
McDaniel recently opened up about the challenge of staying composed when results don’t match expectations.
“We’re very process-driven, but as competitors, it’s impossible not to really get annoyed and p***** off when the results aren’t what you’d expect.
And quite honestly, I didn’t like the majority of the results on plays.
But for me, I think what players on the team that have been with me have learned, what people learn every single season in the NFL, is that you are addressing a challenge of independently addressing your craft with positive or negative feedback,” McDaniel said, via FinsXtra.
The fourth-year coach emphasized that NFL players must constantly evaluate their performance using both success and failure as learning moments. He pointed out that the real test comes from how players respond to different outcomes.
Too many negative results in areas they had drilled left McDaniel far from satisfied.
He made it clear he expects execution that matches their preparation level.
The coaching staff and players understand that cleaning up fundamentals and reducing mental mistakes will be essential for Miami to move past previous disappointments and build the consistency needed for playoff success.
