The Cleveland Browns’ bid to move to a state-of-the-art new stadium is facing a potential hurdle.
Owner Jimmy Haslam is aiming to complete a $2.4billion relocation from the franchise’s current downtown home on the shores of Lake Erie.

The chosen site at Brook Park near Cleveland Hopkins International Airport would allow for a dome to be built to attract the Super Bowl to Ohio.
Fans upset at the prospect of leaving the lakefront have raised objections, as have some lawmakers.
Now, the Ohio Department of Transportation has stepped in and denied a building permit, with an appeal deadline fast approaching.
The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that the Browns are locked in talks to resolve an issue over whether to stadium is too tall to sit so close to the airport.
Per the report, an appeal deadline has been set for Tuesday.“ODOT’s legal team has been in conversation with the applicant’s legal team,” ODOT spokesperson Matt Bruning told the Plain Dealer.
“We continue to work toward the goal of ensuring that any concerns are heard, addressed, and resolved.”
The Browns confirmed that they have not decided whether to appeal, and confirmed that they had presented information suggesting that the proposed structure is not a safety hazard.
Per the August 1 decision letter, the Browns were given two options: lower the stadium by 58 feet, or move it.
Who is the Browns’ starting QB?
Cleveland wants to be in its new home by the 2029 season and will hope to have sorted out a struggling roster long before then.

The DeShaun Wastson trade and his fully guaranteed $230 million contract have cast a long shadow over the roster.
A former powerhouse, the Browns have only played four playoff games since being reborn following the controversial move to Baltimore in 1995.
Joe Flacco will attempt to produce results under center, but it is likely rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders could both get a chance to prove they can be the future.
If not, the Browns have two first-round picks in 2026 thanks to a trade that saw the Jacksonville Jaguars land Travis Hunter in April’s NFL Draft.
General manager Andrew Berry and head coach Kevin Stefanski are entering their sixth season, but beat reporter Mary Kay Cabot doesn’t believe they need to be looking over their shoulders.
“I don’t think so. I really, really don’t think so,” Cabot said when asked if Stefanski was in danger of losing his job on The Ken Carman Show with Anthony Lima. ”
And the reason why I feel that way is because the Browns are in franchise QB finding mode.
“This season is all about finding what they have in Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders so they can move forward in the next year’s draft and decide.
“I don’t think Jimmy Haslam is going to hold Kevin Stefanski or Andrew Berry’s feet to the fire this year.”
The Browns face the Cincinnati Bengals on September 7 looking to get off to a quick start against a team known for sluggish form to open the season.
