Jaxson Dart has shown out in preseason with the New York Giants.

However, that didn’t stop former NFL star Ryan Fitzpatrick from harshly criticising the 22-year-old rookie quarterback during Thursday night’s broadcast of the Giants vs New England Patriots.

“I don’t like his release, I think it’s slow, I don’t think Giants fans should be excited at all,” Fitzpatrick said during the pregame show.

Fitzpatrick’s criticism came in what looked like a hot mic moment, but that didn’t stop a flurry of online criticism being directed at the former quarterback.

“Imagine a career backup is trying to roast a rookie,” one fan wrote on X.

“This whole disrespect talk is foolish. Grow up,” another fan said.

Jaxson Dart keeps on shining in preseason

The Fitzpatrick backlash only intensified when Dart went on to enjoy another strong game during the G-Men’s 42-10 win over the Pats.

Dart completed 6-of-12 passes for 81 yards, along with a 7-yard touchdown to tight end Greg Dulcich.

In his first preseason game against, Dart completed 12-of-19 passes for 154 yards.

In his second game, this time against the New York Jets, he completed 14-of-16 passes for 137 yards along with one touchdown.

All in all in preseason, Dart, who’s No. 3 on the team’s unofficial depth chart, completed 32 of 47 passes for 372 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions, while adding six carries for 52 yards and another score.

“Being a rookie quarterback is not easy — being a quarterback is not easy — so he knows he’s got a lot of things to work on, but he’s made progress every day and I’m glad we drafted him.

I’m glad he’s our guy,” head coach Brian Daboll said after the game.

It’s no surprise that fans are already looking at the Giants’ QB room, which has Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston ahead of Dart and Tommy DeVito, and wondering if Dart can start.

“Dart should start for NYG and stop wasting their time with Russell Wilson,” one fan posted on X.

“Ok, Jaxson Dart is definitely better than Russell Wilson,” another posted.

“Jaxson Dart should start. Giants wasting games on Wilson,” one fan wrote.

It’s unlikely Wilson, who signed a $21 million contract with the Giants in March, will be dropped.

And it’s a fact Dart, who eventually wants the starting job, has accepted going into the season.

“I feel like whenever my number is called I’m gonna go out there, I’m gonna play my game and I’m gonna ball,” Dart said.

“That’s just my mindset any time I touch the field. Obviously Russ is the starter, and he’s going to do amazing, he’s had such a great camp and has played at an elite level.”My job is just to be the best teammate and be ready whenever it is. I’m excited for Russ and what he’s going to do this year.”

Dart added that despite his impressive preseason performances, he has no doubt that Wilson deserves to start when the Giants open their season against the Washington Commanders on September 7.

“Russ has completely earned that role,” Dart added.
“I just want to be the best teammate and I want this team to win, so whatever my role is for that to happen, I’m going to do that to the best of my ability.”
