Changes are being made to the seating at Acrisure Stadium ahead of the 2026 NFL season.

Team owner Art Rooney II, 73, has announced that black seats will be installed at the venue.

He has explained that some seats in the stadium’s upper deck will be changed to black after fan criticism.

The stadium had previously been an all-yellow affair.

 

 

 

“We were making changes to the seating,” Rooney said to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “The sea of gold sometimes gets overwhelming, so we did a little black and gold in there this time around.”

Black seats will be installed in a “random pattern” across the upper deck.

This will be done to dampen the visual effect of empty seats higher up at the facility.

 

 

 

The decision will be particularly important ahead of the 2026 season as the Steelers share the venue with the Pittsburgh Panthers.

College football games featuring Pitt will operate at a reduced capacity of just 51,416 fans in 2026.

This means that there will be more empty seats in the top tier that would otherwise be dazzlingly yellow.

The Panthers’ presence at Acrisure Stadium has proven controversial over recent seasons.

 

 

 

Acrisure Stadium’s field has struggled to meet demands when both teams have used the venue over a weekend.

This has led to calls for Pitt to be kicked out of the stadium by fans.

Even Steelers legend Ben Roethlisberger, 44, has called for the Panthers to move out.

Both teams have been based at the stadium since its opening in 2001.

Acrisure Stadium is owned by the Sports & Exhibition Authority of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County.
