One of the Individuals Involved in Young Dolph Case Claims Yo Gotti’s Brother Requested the Act

Nearly four years after the unfortunate loss of rapper Young Dolph, new developments continue to surface in the ongoing legal proceedings. The Memphis artist, whose real name was Adolph Robert Thornton Jr., lost his life in November 2021 at Makeda’s Cookies, a well-known local business.

One person has already been held legally responsible for his involvement. In 2024, 21-year-old Justin Johnson was found accountable for the most serious charge and received a life sentence. Now, attention has turned to others believed to be connected to the case.

According to VIBE, on Monday, August 18, Cornelius Smith—one of the individuals linked to the situation—testified that Anthony “Big Jook” Mims, brother of fellow Memphis rapper Yo Gotti, was the person who initially called for the action to be carried out. Additionally, Smith claimed that offers were made against other members associated with Dolph’s label, Paper Route Empire (PRE).

Young Dolph and Yo Gotti were known to have had a prolonged disagreement that extended beyond their music careers.

Smith said that, on the day prior to the fatal incident, he and another individual—identified as Hernandez Govan, whom he described as an intermediary—had been looking for an opportunity to confront Dolph. After receiving information about his whereabouts, they decided to follow him to the bakery.

“They crossed the light and we saw the car—at that point, we recognized it. So we began to follow Young Dolph,” Smith recalled.

“Once we saw him, no words were exchanged—we understood it was time to act. When we pulled into the lot, that’s when I noticed Young Dolph was standing near the glass.”

Smith also stated that after the act was carried out, they contacted Big Jook through a video call to inform him that the task had been completed.

“He FaceTimed Big Jook, and Jook said he’d speak to us after spending time with his children,” Smith said.

In a tragic twist, Big Jook also lost his life in early 2024 during a separate incident following a funeral gathering in Memphis. As of now, no formal legal actions have been taken in connection to that event.
