Jarrett Stidham’s family history includes ties to some of the most powerful figures in sports.

In a season defined by the “next man up,” no storyline is more surreal than the one unfolding at Empower Field this Sunday.

Jarrett Stidham, a veteran backup who hasn’t thrown a single regular-season pass in two years, will lead the Denver Broncos into the AFC Championship Game against the New England Patriots.

The sudden promotion follows a devastating season-ending ankle fracture suffered by Bo Nix during last Saturday’s overtime thriller against the Buffalo Bills.

While Stidham prepares for the biggest game of his life, his calm under fire may stem from a home life that is no stranger to championship-level expectations.

He found the love of his life, Kennedy, while the two were collegiate athletes at Baylor University in 2015, before he eventually made his way to Auburn in 2017.

For Kennedy, the intensity of professional sports is a lifelong language. She is the daughter of Tad Brown, a titan in the sports business world whose resume reads like a “Who’s Who” of front-office legends.

Brown currently serves as the CEO of Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment (HBSE), the parent company of the Philadelphia 76ers and the New Jersey Devils.

Under Brown’s leadership, HBSE has ballooned into a conglomerate valued at roughly $14.5 billion, with a portfolio that reaches into nearly every corner of professional athletics—including a significant stake in the Washington Commanders.

Before taking the helm at HBSE, Brown spent 15 years as the CEO of the Houston Rockets. In the world of sports business, Brown is considered a heavyweight who has navigated the highest levels of executive leadership for over two decades.

Brown’s transition to the CEO role at HBSE in 2021 was a major industry move. This placed him at the center of a network of high-profile executives and owners.

Brown’s move to HBSE reunited him with Daryl Morey. The two worked together with the Rockets, where their partnership led to one of the most successful winning percentages in the NBA during that span, led by superstar James Harden.

He now reports directly to Josh Harris (who owns the Commanders) and David Blitzer. These two are among the most influential owners in modern sports, managing a global portfolio of teams that also include Crystal Palace F.C. and Joe Gibbs Racing.

Recently, the organization added Bob Myers, the architect of the Golden State Warriors dynasty, to work alongside Brown. While Brown handles the $14 billion business operations, Myers focuses on the sports side.

As Stidham steps onto the field this weekend, he isn’t just representing the Broncos; he is part of a family structure that is intimately familiar with the pressure of managing multibillion-dollar franchises and superstar personalities.

Is New England’s defense supposed to intimidate him with a father-in-law like that? Doubtful.

As the sun sets over the Rockies this Sunday, Stidham’s entire legacy could shift.

Stepping in for the injured Nix, Stidham has the rare opportunity to turn a backup story into a legendary one. He can become the next Nick Foles.

If he can lead the Broncos to a victory, he won’t just be the son-in-law of a sports mogul or a footnote as Nix’s backup—he’ll be the quarterback who took Denver back to the Super Bowl.

In a family defined by elite sports success, Sunday is Stidham’s chance to earn his seat at the table. The stage is set, the legacy is waiting, and for the first time this season, the ball is entirely in his hands.
