Charles Barkley had some strong words for the NFL on Inside The NBA

THE NBA may have won the war with the NFL on Christmas even if the ratings say otherwise, it has been claimed.

Basketball went head-to-head with football again on the holiday.

Christmas Day games on national, free-to-air television have long been a part of the NBA tradition.

The NFL has attempted to muscle in on the holiday with a double-header on Netflix beginning last year.

This Christmas saw five NBA games on ABC and ESPN from midday ET until 1 am ET compete with three football games.

The NFL’s Netflix double-header began at 1 pm ET before a night game on Amazon Prime.

And Awful Announcing has reported that NBA might have won the war, even if the NFL returns higher ratings.

According to Awful Announcing’s research, most of Friday morning’s sports shows led with NBA over NFL.

The NBA’s major talking points included Nikola Jokic scoring 56 points in a win for the Denver Nuggets against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The San Antonio Spurs also beat the NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder for the third time this month.

Arguably the bigger talking points came in the NFL.

Travis Kelce played what could have been his last ever home game for the Kansas City Chiefs as he considers retirement.

And the Detroit Lions were officially eliminated from playoff contention after a loss against the Minnesota Vikings.

Lakers legend LeBron James last year declared, “I love the NFL, but Christmas is our day.”

And Charles Barkley began ESPN’s NBA coverage on Christmas by slamming the NFL for trying to “hog” the schedule.

“The NFL got greedy and started adding Christmas games,” Barkley said on Inside the NBA ahead of the New York Knicks-Cleveland Cavaliers’ noon ET game.

“We used to have this day to ourself but you know Roger Goodell and them pigs at the NFL always wanna hog every day of the week now..

“…They on Saturday now, too, on Friday, too.”
