The Chiefs star wasn’t the only one baffled by the decision

NFL superstar Patrick Mahomes has led the outrage at Bill Belichick’s Hall of Fame snub.

The former New England Patriots head coach, 73, had been regarded as a first-ballot shoe-in.

Belichick reportedly fell short of the 40 out of 50 votes needed to enter the Hall of Fame at the first attempt.

Reports from ESPN claim the legendary coach is “puzzled” and “disappointed” by the vote.

Belichick is an eight-time Super Bowl winner and boasts a stunning 333-178 winning record in the NFL.

Chiefs quarterback Mahomes took to X on Tuesday just hours after the snub was revealed.

“Insane… don’t even understand how this could be possible,” he wrote to his 2.8 million followers.

Mahomes’ bafflement was shared by a host of famous names from across the world of sports.

“I can’t be reading this right. This has to be some knock-off Hall of Fame or something, it can’t be the actual NFL Hall of Fame,” gasped former NFL star J.J. Watt.

“Man there’s no way I read that right! Right? Ain’t no WAY Bill Belichick ain’t 1st Ballot HOF!! That’s IMPOSSIBLE, EGREGIOUS, and quite frankly DISRESPECTFUL!” agreed NBA legend LeBron James.

“Regardless of your opinion of Bill Belichick, him not being a first ballot Hall of Famer is a disgrace – and a direct indictment on the Hall of Fame itself,” added NFL Insider Jordan Schultz.

“As a HOF coach I think Bill Belichick is the greatest of all time,” wrote legendary coach Jimmy Johnson.

“Yes he had a great QB but we all did..he won AFTER THE salary cap and free agency plus I Know how much he LOVES THE NFL and the game.”

“The Disrespect to Coach Belichick is straight out IGNORANT! He’s arguably the BEST NFL COACH TO EVER COACH THE GAME! How quickly we forget the impact Coach Belichick made on all of us! @nfl WOW!” added Hall of Famer Deion Sanders.

ESPN claim Belichick received a call from the Hall of Fame last Friday with the news.

Belichick was hired by the Patriots in 2000 and led the franchise to six Super Bowl wins.

He also won two rings as the defensive coordinator of the New York Giants.

Belichick’s 333 wins in the regular season and playoffs with New England and Cleveland are the second most to Don Shula’s 347.

He is currently head coach of the UNC Tar Heels, where he led the program to a 4-8 season in 2025.
