Rivers’ fourth-eldest child, Gunner, has committed to play at NC State, per 247Sports.
This is the same team that Rivers Sr. played for from 2000 to 2003.
Gunner has experienced a successful junior season playing high school football for St Michael Catholic in Fairhope, Alabama.
He led the team to an impressive 13 wins from 14 games.
The quarterback Gunner threw 44 touchdowns and just five interceptions throughout the high school football season.
The team’s outstanding run resulted in an appearance in the state title game while being coached by Rivers Sr.
Gunner’s decision comes after his father stunningly came out of retirement at 44 years old to help a crisis at the Indianapolis Colts.
Rivers Sr. made an immediate impact as he started for the Colts in a loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
He ultimately opted to retire again after making three starts for the franchise.
Rivers was then interviewed for the Buffalo Bills‘ head coach position.
But he withdrew his name from contention before the 36-year-old Joe Brady took the role.
Rivers is instead set to remain as the St Michael Catholic head coach for another season.
Gunner’s decision to join the Wolfpack comes after his father made an NCAA record of 51 consecutive starts at quarterback in college.
He has already been compared to Texas star Arch Manning, 21, as he received several offers.
Other offers had been made by Auburn, Boston College, Miami, and South Carolina.
Gunner is set to join NC State ahead of the 2027 college football season.
