James, 41, was spotted ignoring the United States‘ national anthem ahead of the Lakers’ 125-101 win.

He was seen moving his arms in a golf swing motion during the anthem.

This has caused significant outrage from radio host Craig Carton, 56.

Carton has hit out at James on his podcast, The Craig Carton Show.

“He disrespects the national anthem,” Carton said. “And while the anthem is being played, play it here guys.

“Your guy, the self-appointed king, decides that’s a good time for me to work on my golf swing and disrespect the men and women of the military who gave their lives for this country.

Forward James is still considering his retirement options as he nears the end of his NBA career.

James is playing a record-breaking 23rd season in the league.

He made history last season as he took to the court with his son Bronny, 21.

Of course, another explanation for his motions during the national anthem is that he was stretching off before the game.

But fans are becoming increasingly concerned that James has mentally checked out of his basketball career.

“Seems he is already more into retirement than playing the game. Time to leave,” one fan posted on X.

“Ready for retirement,” another commented.

It has been a slow start to the 2025-26 NBA season for the veteran.

James missed the opening stages of the season after an extended injury.

He finally made his season debut against the Utah Jazz on November 18.

Now James is making up for lost time with a 24-point performance to help defeat the Kings.

The Lakers lead the Pacific Division and will return to action against the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday.
