One day after throwing a punch at a Buffalo Bills player during a preseason game, Shilo Sanders was waived by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, leaving his future with the team uncertain.
The son of Deion Sanders and brother of Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders was ejected from the game on Saturday, Aug. 23 after punching Bills tight end Zach Davidson, making contact with his helmet.
Sanders, 25, later drew criticism from Bucs head coach Todd Bowles.
“You can’t throw punches in this league, that’s inexcusable,” Bowles told reporters after the game. “They’re going to get you every time. You’ve got to grow from that.”
An undrafted free agent, Sanders inked a three-year $2.9-million contract with the Bucs earlier this summer.
The Colorado alum was looking to make the roster, competing for the fourth safety spot on the team.
Earlier this month, Sanders had a good showing in the team’s first preseason game.

After making a key tackle in their 29-7 win over the Tennessee Titans, the rookie said he tried to give his game-worn jersey to dad Deion.
“He didn’t want it,” Sanders laughingly told reporters about his dad refusing his dirty jersey. “‘Cause, you know he’s a Hall of Famer.
He expects like 30 times more. He didn’t want my jersey. I’m gonna give it to my mom, though.”
Later, in a video shared to his Instagram, Sanders presented his mom Pilar Sanders with the memento.
“Shout-out to my mom for coming, she went all the way to North Carolina for Shedeur’s game and then went to my game, so you have my jersey,” he said.
“Yay!” Pilar responded. “Oh my gosh, your first NFL jersey.”
