Ahead of Week 2, they decided to move on from their longtime kicker, Younghoe Koo.
Koo was dropped by the Falcons after their Week 1 loss to the Buccs.
The 31-year-old made two field goals on either side of halftime, but missed a last-minute 44-yard attempt.
With six seconds left on the clock, Koo sent his kick past the right post.
This would have tied the game at 23 a piece, sending it into overtime. The South Korean-born star originally went undrafted back in 2017 but was picked up by the LA Chargers.
Here, he won the starting spot over Josh Lambo, but was waived after the Chargers started 0-4.
Before being picked up by the Falcons in 2019, he featured on the Patriots’ practice squad.
He also played in the short-lived Alliance of American Football for the Atlanta Legends.
Koo replaced longtime kicker and franchise-leading scorer Matt Bryant in Atlanta.
Why Josh Allen vs Lamar Jackson is the new Brady vs Manning
He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2020 and continued to prove himself in the NFL for the next few seasons. The Falcons have since claimed their first victory of the year.
They defeated the Minnesota Vikings 22-6.
This was in large part due to Koo’s replacement, Parker Romo.
The 28-year-old went five-for-five from his field goal attempts, including a 54-yarder, and nailed the only extra-point opportunity he was given.
His longest field goal was 54 yards, one short of his NFL record.
All four previous appearances in the NFL have come for the Vikings.
He made 11 out of his 12 attempts in Minneapolis but spent less than a year in the Midwest.
Romo went unselected in the 2022 NFL Draft, having graduated from the University of Tulsa. He then spent a few years dotting around offseason or practice squads and even featured in the XFL for a year.
