There had already been drama before the showdown got underway

RICE OWLS star Daveon Hook has been released from hospital after suffering an injury during the 41-10 loss to Texas State in the Armed Forces Bowl.

The safety needed to be put in a neck brace after a brutal tackle in the third quarter.

Hook, who has his sights set on the NFL, could be seen lying on the field and readjusting his helmet after the terrifying hit to the head and neck area.

He remained down for more than ten minutes before being stabilized, loaded onto a stretcher and carted out of the Amon G. Carter Stadium.

The 28,243 fans fell silent while Hook was receiving urgent medical treatment.

And his shocked Rice teammates also gathered around him before applauding him off the field.

But there was a positive update hours after the worrying scenes in Fort Worth because it was confirmed that Hook had been released from hospital.

He had already made two tackles before his outing was brought to a premature end.

Texas State went on to seal a comfortable victory over Rice after a rampant second half.

They were already holding a 10-7 lead heading into halftime before taking full control of the contest, which was broadcast on ESPN.

Bobcats quarterback Brad Jackson completed 16 of his 23 passes for 166 yards and also notched three touchdowns.

The Armed Forces Bowl had already not gone to plan before the horrifying injury suffered by Hook.

A parachutist got caught in the field goal netting and fell into the crowd ahead of kickoff.

The man was left suspended at the top of the goalposts, which stand at 35 feet tall, for several seconds before suddenly plunging to the ground.

Initial plans had been made for five parachutists to land on the field, but only three reached their intended destination because another ended up outside the Texas-based stadium.
