Rashee Rice is facing a potential suspension by the NFL after being involved in a multi-car crash last year, but it appears that Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes received a positive update on the Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver.
According to NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN, the third-year wideout won’t have his disciplinary hearing with the league in New York until Tuesday, September 30.
This means he’ll continue to be eligible for the start of the 2025 season.
The expected date for the hearing would allow Rice to play for the Chiefs in the first four weeks before any potential sanction is imposed on him for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy during the 2024 offseason.
Reid, Mahomes to count on Rice for Chiefs’ first four games in 2025
Consequently, Reid would count on one of Mahomes’ favorite weapons for crucial games early in the 2025 NFL season, starting with the Week 1 game against division rivals Los Angeles Chargers in Brazil on Sept. 5.

Rashee Rice #4 and Patrick Mahomes #15 of the Kansas City Chiefs walk off the field after a win over the Atlanta Falcons at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on September 22, 2024 in Atlanta, Georgia.
Rice would also be available to suit up the following week against the Philadelphia Eagles, in a highly anticipated Super Bowl LIX rematch set for Sep. 14.
Needless to say, Mahomes and company will be looking for redemption after suffering a brutal loss in New Orleans in February.
The reported date for Rice’s disciplinary hearing means Reid and the Chiefs would also have the wideout available to face the New York Giants on Sep. 21 and Lamar Jackson’s Baltimore Ravens on Sep. 28.
The first game Rice could miss with the Chiefs in 2025
In the event Rice’s hearing takes place on Sept. 30 as expected and the NFL ends up suspending him, the first game he could miss would be the Monday Night Football showdown against the Jacksonville Jaguars on October 6. However, it remains to be seen whether Rice will actually miss any games, and if so, how many.
