Team USA quarterback Darrell Doucette humiliated Tom Brady and a host of NFL stars at the inaugural flag football classic.
His squad went 3-0 and won by a combined score of 106-44 against Brady’s Founders team, and another roster which boasted the likes of Joe Burrow, Jayden Daniels and Saquon Barkley.

Doucette and Team USA embarrassed NFL stars on the flag football field
Doucette was named the event’s MVP en-route to lifting the trophy, and backed up a ‘totally misunderstood’ statement he made back in 2024.
He went viral two years ago for saying he was a better flag football quarterback than Patrick Mahomes.
Weeks after the sport was officially added to the 2028 Olympics program, Doucette pushed back on the suggestion that the US needed to flood their team with NFL stars.
“I’m not saying I’m a better player overall but until he steps on a 5v5 flag field, I’m going to feel that way until it’s proven otherwise,” he said at the time, and has more recently doubled-down on that.
“I’m a competitor and need to be proven wrong.”
The comment made waves at the time, with some NFL fans branding him ‘foolish’ and ‘arrogant’ — even though Doucette repeatedly emphasized he meant he was only better than Mahomes at flag football.
After dominating a crop of pros at the flag football classic, the 36-year-old provided more context over his headline-grabbing statement.
Darrell Doucette addresses viral Patrick Mahomes comments
“I made some remarks that were totally misconstrued and misunderstood,” he said.
“All I was speaking about was giving my brothers a fair chance to make (the Olympics in) 2028.
“We came out this weekend with that on our mind.

Doucette was named MVP of the flag football event, and was emotional post-game

He insists previous comments about being better than Mahomes were ‘misunderstood’
“To say, ‘Let’s show these guys we are talented. That we are flag football.’ And not to be overlooked by anyone in the world.”
NFL stars humbled at high-profile flag football tournament
Indeed, after his team’s performance over the weekend, Doucette and his flag football ‘brothers’ will be hard to overlook.
Plenty of NFL players were said to be keen on winning a spot on the 2028 Olympic team, including former quarterback Robert Griffin III, but many were handed quite the wake-up call in Los Angeles on Saturday.
The flag football tournament was played at BMO Stadium, and Team USA crushed Brady’s Founders FFC 43-16, after beating Burrow’s Wildcats squad 39-16.
Logan Paul also featured for a Wildcats team that went on to eliminate Brady from the round-robin tournament, but they were no match for Team USA in the championship game.
The national squad won 24-14 to lift the trophy and stake their claim for the 2028 Olympics.

Team USA won the tournament and many players have hopes of making the Olympics
Doucette fought back tears in his post-game press conference, having humbled the pros on national TV.
Team USA coach Jorge Cascudo acknowledged that NFL players will be able to catch up should they want to learn the ins-and-outs of flag football, and welcomed the spotlight on the sport.
“If they put the work into this, they’re going to be the best of the best,” Cascudo said of the beaten NFL stars.
“Right now, we’re going to enjoy this moment and take advantage of it until then.

Brady impressed on an individual level, but his team suffered heavy defeats
“Because when they get to know the game and the skill and the little intricacies that go with it, then we’re in trouble.
“For now, we’re the champs.”
