David revealed his decision to retire from the NFL at a news conference at the Bucs’ training facility.

The 36-year-old was a 12-time captain and the longest-tenured player on the Bucs’ current roster.

Retirement has been the topic of discussion for David in recent years.

David signed one-year agreements in each of the last three years, which gave him the opportunity to leave the team.

During his final season, David had a lingering knee injury.

Still, the veteran didn’t miss time due to the ailment and produced yet another stellar season, recording 114 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 8.0 tackles for loss, and two forced fumbles.

But David needed arthroscopic surgery after the campaign and has revealed that he needed fluid drained weekly from his knee in order to play all 17 games.

David is a potential Hall of Famer, as he is one of just three players to post 40-plus sacks and 35-plus takeaways – the other two were Hall of Famers Ray Lewis and Brian Urlacher

He’s just one of seven players to reach 1,700 tackles since the statistic became an officially tracked metric in 1994.

David has 41 sacks, 32 forced fumbles, and 14 interceptions in his career.

He’ll also be remembered for helping Tampa Bay win its second Super Bowl.

David was the top defender for the 2020 roster that beat the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 55.

Throughout his career, David earned $103m.
