Despite being just days away from the biggest game of his season, Sean McVay’s clearly remaining loose.
During a meeting with media members on Friday, the Rams head coach was asked about turning 40 years old this weekend, and he cracked a joke that had the room in stitches.
Sean McVay joked on Friday with reporters about his 40th birthday.
“If you guys say, ‘Happy 40th,’” he said, “I’ll slap the s—t out of you.”
He went on to say he’s just “not a big birthday” guy.
When Sean McVay was hired by the Rams, he became the youngest head coach in NFL history at 30 years old.
“Here’s what I will say,” McVay said. “What’s a good birthday? When I’m working on my birthday and if I’m working next week. That’d be a hell of a birthday. That’s the only present I want from you [reporter].”
While hilarious, it’s hardly the first time McVay’s age has been brought up among the media.
He became the youngest head coach in league history when the Rams hired him at just 30 years old. He later went on to earn the title of youngest head coach to ever win a Super Bowl at 36.

Entering a new decade on Saturday, though, has clearly hit just a bit of a different chord for him.
But no matter the date on his driver’s license, McVay’s proved year after year he’s a Hall of Fame-level coach. In his nine seasons with the Rams, he’s notched a 92-57 record. He’s also been to two Super Bowls, and is now just one more win over the Seahawks on Sunday from reaching his third.
Not bad too shabby for 40, to say the least.
