PAT McAfee has clashed with ESPN colleague Dan Orlovsky over his controversial Ty Simpson take.

The former NFL punter went toe-to-toe with Orlovsky on Tuesday’s edition of The Pat McAfee Show.

Orlovsky believes that Ty Simpson is the best quarterback of the 2026 draft class

Orlovsky was discussing college football earlier in the day on ESPN’s Get Up.

He claimed that Simpson, who was play-caller for the Alabama Crimson Tide last season, is his surprise QB1 for the upcoming NFL Draft.

“I think Ty Simpson is the best quarterback in this class,” Orlovsky declared.

The bold call was quickly called out by social media, who demanded to know why Orlovsky favored Simpson over national championship winner Fernando Mendoza.

“How much did Ty Simpson’s agent pay Dan to say that?” joked one fan after the footage went viral.

“Dan Orlovsky is as good as a commentator as he was an NFL player,” replied another brutally.

Orlovsky joined McAfee’s show on Tuesday morning to defend his take.

McAfee countered the former Detroit quarterback by declaring that Mendoza had done the business in the “biggest games” of the 2025 season.

Orlovsky immediately fired back a sarcastic response, asking “What biggest games, Pat?”

“So the college football playoffs don’t mean anything?” a baffled McAfee roared in response.

“This is why people are saying you are getting paid to say this.”

Simpson has a total of 15 college starts over his four years in Alabama, guiding the Crimson Tide to 11-4 last season.

Mendoza meanwhile is seen as the consensus No.1 overall pick ahead of next month’s Draft.

Fernando Mendoza is widely expected to be the No. 1 pick in this years draft

He led Indiana to a 16-0 season and a historic National Championship, throwing for an impressive 3,535 yards and 41 touchdowns.

McAfee went on to blast Orlovsky, who maintained he was giving “factual information.”

“The college football playoffs must be a big mockery, a scam, doesn’t mean anything,” McAfee raged sarcastically.

“These games don’t matter? What do you mean these aren’t the biggest games.

“They have a full f***ing committee. They have billions of dollars in TV rights.”

Despite Orlovsky’s protests, NFL fans appeared to mainly side with McAfee after the fiery debate.

“It’ll be hard to unhear and unsee how dumb @danorlovsky7 looked here. I’ve lost ALL respect for the guy,” wrote one on X.

“Pat going off on Dan for Ty over Fernando is real. Ty didn’t win the playoff so that argument weak. Pat’s right, college playoffs mean everything. Dan’s take sounds forced,” said a second.

“I usually agree with Dan but wow this take is just bad,” commented a third.
