It has been announced that forward Marcus Allen will miss the rest of Miami‘s current campaign.
He has been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
This is a type of cancer that develops in a network of glands and vessels called the lymphatic system and spreads throughout the body.
The sophomore has been diagnosed following routine medical tests.
He started his college career with the Missouri Tigers before joining the Hurricanes.
Allen has averaged 5.3 points per game this year.
Miami head coach Jai Lucas, 37, has offered his support for the ruled-out forward.
“Marcus is an incredible person and teammate,” Lucas said. “And we will do everything we can to support him and his amazing family during this difficult time.
“Marcus brings toughness and selflessness to our locker room every day and those same qualities will help him defeat this disease.”
The four-star recruit helped Miami Norland High School to a state championship in 2024.
He was then picked for the Allen Iverson Classic All-American game.
Allen’s family has released a statement following his public diagnosis.
“We want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers during an extremely difficult time for our family,” Allen’s family said.
“We thank God for his continued Grace, Mercy and Favor. We wait in anticipation for the miracle healing to take place. We are standing on FAITH.”
Allen has already started chemotherapy to treat the cancer.
The Hurricanes are 10-2 this season as they prepare to face the North Florida Ospreys on Sunday, December 21.
