The New York Jets didn’t look competitive in their second preseason contest.
They failed to keep up with the New York Giants, especially on offense.
That’s why, even though they didn’t have their starters out there for the most part, head coach Aaron Glenn was far from satisfied.
Following the loss, the former Detroit Lions defensive coordinator sounded off on his team (via Jets Videos).
“Overall, in general, we weren’t good enough. I don’t care if it was the starting offense, I don’t care if it was the second team offense, the third team offense,” Glenn said.
Justin Fields completed just one of five passes for four yards. It’s just the preseason, and the sample size isn’t significant.
Nevertheless, there have been some worrisome reports about Fields all throughout training camp.
Some of his erratic throws have gone viral on social media.
Also, given his long and well-documented history of struggles as a passer, there are more than enough reasons to be worried about him.
Fields has been in the league long enough to prove whether he’s got it or not.
He’s shown glimpses of strong play, and he’s one of the strongest, biggest, fastest, and most athletic quarterbacks in the game.
Unfortunately, it takes much more than just physical tools to thrive in this league, and he should’ve gotten his act together by now.
Again, this loss can’t be put on Fields, who was barely on the field, but the signs aren’t encouraging nonetheless.
This team has struggled way too much to get back to the playoffs, and a lot of that has had to do with their offensive miscues.
They rolled the dice on Fields, but this might be his final shot to prove that he deserves to be a starter in this league.
