MIKE Tomlin has stepped down from his head coaching job at the Pittsburgh Steelers.

While he is widely regarded as one of the best head coaches in the NFL, Mike Tomlin struggled to find success with the Steelers in the second half of his tenure.
Pittsburgh lost seven playoff games in a row dating back to the 2016 season, with the most recent coming in the Wild Card round this year against the Houston Texans.
The loss lead to Tomlin and the Steelers parting ways, and could end up causing Aaron Rodgers to retire as well.
Rodgers stormed out of his press conference following the early playoff exit.
Tomlin refused to speak about his job status in the same presser following the Texans game.
“You know, it’s not time for talk,” he said.
“We agreed that we’d meet tomorrow and go from there. When you’re in this single-elimination tournament, there’s not a whole lot to talk about. You win or you go home.”
It appears that meeting ended with the two parties deciding to split.
Steelers president Art Rooney II released a statement following Tomlin’s decision.
“Obviously, I am extremely grateful to Mike for all the hard work, dedication and success we have shared over the last 19 years,” the statement read.
“It is is hard for me to put into words the level of respect I have for coach Tomlin.”
“My family and I, and everyone connected to Steelers management, are forever grateful for the passion and dedication Mike Tomlin has devoted to the Steelers,” the statement continued.
Tomlin ends his Steelers career with a 193-114-2 record in the regular season but an 8-12 record in the playoffs.
However, he won the Super Bowl in 2008 and will forever be a Steelers legend.

After much thought and reflection, I have decided to step down as head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
This organization has been a huge part of my life for many years, and it has been an absolute honor to lead this team. I am deeply grateful to Art Rooney II and the late Ambassador Rooney for their trust and support. I am also thankful to the players who gave everything they had every day, and to the coaches and staff whose commitment and dedication made this journey so meaningful.
I want to also thank Steelers Nation. Your passion, loyalty, and high expectations represent what makes this franchise truly special. Coaching in Pittsburgh is unlike anywhere else, and I will always take great pride in having been a steward of this team.
While this chapter comes to a close, my respect and love for the Pittsburgh Steelers will never change. I am excited for what the future holds for this organization, and I will forever be grateful for my time coaching in Pittsburgh.
The 53-year-old was the longest-tenured head coach in the NFL, and will now be one of the hottest names on the free agent market.
Whether or not he is interested in taking another coaching job for the 2026 season is yet to be seen.
