Cam Heyward could be a critical piece of the best defense in the NFL this season.

But as the Pittsburgh Steelers navigate another tense contract stalemate, the team’s biggest names are taking shots at Heyward’s public push for a new deal.

“Everything not about you, bro,” new Steelers No. 1 wide receiver DK Metcalf, who got shredded on a diet of candy, said on Heyward’s podcast.

Then Aaron Rodgers stepped up.

“It’s all about you and your money,” Rodgers said.

Both Metcalf and Rodgers appeared to be joking with their new teammate, and Heyward laughed in response.
But with so much at stake for the Steelers in 2025, it’s clear that the team’s biggest names want Heyward on the field for Week 1.The seven-time Pro Bowler was an All-Pro selection last season, and has been one of the best defensive linemen in the NFL since he entered the league in 2011 as a first-round pick out of Ohio State.

T.J. Watt received a three-year contract extension from the Steelers worth $123 million, while Trey Hendrickson is involved in a bitter battle with the Cincinnati Bengals for more guaranteed money.

Heyward says he’s looking to be ‘valued’ by Steelers

Heyward, 36, is also battling for more cash, and has been a training camp ‘hold in’ since August 7.
“I’m looking to be valued,” Heyward said.”I know what I bring to this team and what I’m capable of on and off the field, so it’s hard for me, after the year I’ve had, to really justify playing at the number I’m playing at.

“I signed a contract last year. But to be completely honest with you, when I signed that, I told [them] when I have an All-Pro year expecting me to come back and you can look at the contract and see what it was.

“I think everybody kind of giggled a little bit, but in my head, I used it as motivation to go out there and prove it.”

Heyward started all 17 regular-season games last year, recording eight sacks, 71 combined tackles and 20 quarterback hits.

He’s under contract through 2026, and signed a two-year, $29m extension last September.

But Heyward is underpaid compared to the best defensive linemen in the league, and he’s pushing the Steelers for more money — just like Watt did.

“I think there’s an easier way to get this done to still respect the Steelers and what they do and having tiers out of a contract, but we’ll see,” he said.
Baltimore Ravens fans delight in Aaron Rodgers struggles as ‘pull quote’ quarterback footage emerges
While Heyward returns to practice, he waits for more cash. And his Steelers teammates aren’t afraid to needle him, especially a future Hall of Fame quarterback who recently joined Pittsburgh.

“I used to hate Rodgers,” one fan tweeted. “Now I like him more than Cam. Do you want to be a Steeler or not?”

“Love the ribbing from the guy who’s the highest paid player ever,” a second fan posted
“Finally getting called out,” a third fan wrote. “Cam needs to chill.”
